Climate Change

Heres a new term: greenhushing.

Instead of greenwashing many of the worlds largest companies are now hiding their decarbonisation efforts. Theyre not giving up though. A recent survey of around 4,000 firms has shown that only 16% have dialled back their goals, while 84% have maintained or raised them, and more than two-thirds say theyre on track for their targets

Earth's continents are drying, causing sea levels to rise faster than melting ice. Satellite data shows dry areas expanding rapidly

To create successful climate policies, policymakers need to communicate clearly and credibly about public support for climate measures. People who support these measures need to know they are not alone. However, this may only work for more popular policies and is unlikely to be enough for tougher, less liked measures. Yet such measures are likely to be needed to have a realistic chance of reaching ambitious climate targets

The tiny ocean organisms that could help the climate in a big way

Fresh water is disappearing from the land all over the world. Much of it is entering the ocean, resulting in drier continents and higher sea levels. tells us more:

The Green Pioneer, "the world's first green ammonia dual-powered vessel," tied up this morning in Boston's Reserved Channel.

"This 75-metre vessel bypasses transitional fuels like biofuels and liquefied natural gases by converting standard engines to run on a green ammonia mix.... and is paving the way for a zero-carbon future at sea."

One of my politically minded friends was bemoaning the lack of the statesmen and women of the past who would deal with things like wars and food shortages.

My take on it for what its worth is that human affairs are driven by our environment far more than we realise. For many of us protesting climate change has been because of the fear of the spiral of decline and the rise of fascism that will result and unfortunately were now well into the impacts and seeing those negative feedback loops play out.

I dont hold out much hope that such statesmen and women have much to offer these days. Rather than rue their passing, Im focussed on trying to mitigate what we can. Ive seen all the example I need in Greta Thunberg. There she is on a ship heading to Gaza, plotting a course into the eye of the storm.

The only way out now is through, no one is going to come along and save us. We have to plot our course in the storm and if were brave enough and competent enough we might relieve a bit of suffering along the way.

These events usually result from extreme weather conditions such as prolonged heavy rainfall, rapid snowmelt, or even the sudden failure of a dam. As our climate continues to change, these weather patterns are becoming more intense, making megafloods more frequent and severe

Sometimes we tend to get frustrated and overwhelmed by pessimism that changes like real action to slow down the or a real will never come.

However, I spent the last 2 days just strolling through East as if it had always been like this. They were highly emotional days for me, because born in the 1960s and grown up in Germany, I naturally experienced completely different times.

But it also gave me the courage to never stop doing small things.
