(World Migratory Bird Day)

Il tema scelto questanno Every Bird Counts Your Observations Matter!, ovvero

(World Migratory Bird Day)

(ISPRA)

Perch dobbiamo continuare a guardarli volare

Ironically, by exploiting imaginary carbon capture as a means of preserving its market Exxon has made costly carbon capture or sequestration in one form or another more urgently necessary. Engineered deceit and procrastination have made climate mitigation much more expensive.

''A 2014 presentation on Exxons carbon capture portfolio included a slide listing challenges to reaching commercial scale. It noted widespread deployment would require a massive investment and an eventual storage rate comparable to current oil and gas production. It said costs were high and there were no market-based incentives.

Three years later, a different Exxon scientist was asked by a colleague to record an advertisement for the technology. He noted that the company was calling itself a leader in carbon capture but said he was not a big fan of the claim. At the time, Exxons carbon capture operations were largely restricted to gas processing plants that stripped the climate pollutant out of methane and injected it into oil or gas fields. That technology, he said, has nothing to do with the type of carbon capture that Exxon and others were promoting for power plants and industrial facilities.''

This should be #1 news story globally.

A study analysed 2580 marine heatwave (MHW) events from 54 stations across 20 US estuaries and found that heat stress from pre & post phases of MHWs when combined with MHWs, results in approximately 1.5x the heat stress than MHWs alone.

As current metrics don't reliably infer pre & post phases, ocean heat stress in reality is much higher than we currently know. The study proposes to reliably quantify them.

Free-roaming population far exceeds human population of Seychelles after decades-long recovery programme

8 October 2026

Excerpts: "A survey of the worlds largest free-roaming giant tortoise population has discovered that the once is thriving.

"A population of Aldabra giant tortoises lives on an island in Seychelles called Atoll.

"The most recent survey, led by (SIF) and the University of Exeter, revealed there were approximately 180,000 tortoises living on the island. This is the highest figure ever recorded for the species and far exceeds the human population of Seychelles.

"The new figure was obtained by a team who analysed five years of tortoise counts between 2018 and 2022. It is the first update since a widely cited figure of 100,000 tortoises from the late 1990s.
Aldabra Atoll is one of only two places in the world where giant tortoises are found in the wild, with a much smaller population living in the .
Dr Frauke Fleischer-Dogley, the CEO of SIF, said: 'More than 180,000 giant tortoises roaming freely on our atoll is proof of what long-term commitment to can achieve. This is wonderful news for Seychelles, for the world, and for everyone who has worked to protect Aldabra.'

...

" 'These results are great news for the tortoises and testament to the fantastic work done in the field,' said Dr Dave Hudson, a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Exeters Cornwall campus.

" 'But its important to remember that the numbers provide a baseline not an endpoint.

" 'Hopefully we have provided the conservation managers the evidence they need to track future change and act early as the tortoises face increasing pressures from , drought and .

" and specialized training are helping people adapt to a changing landscape as polar bears appear in new places and at different times.

"After retiring from a long career as a conservation officer with the Canadian government, Derrick Pottle devoted himself to guiding people on the land, carving, hunting, and training bear guards.

"Pottle, an elder and skilled guide from the Inuit community of in , founded Planning in 2005. The program trains and certifies students to guard against the polar bears and black bears found throughout northern Labrador. The three-day course is advertised as offering 'safety, protection, confidence in bear country.'

"More than two decades later, that work has taken on renewed urgency. As reshapes the Arctic particularly the rely on to travel and hunt Inuit are seeing the animals at different times of year and in places they rarely encountered before. Pottle says those changes are increasing the need for people who know how to keep people and bears safe. That, he said, is the whole objective of the course.' "

Techno-optimism may lead to reliance on unproven solutions at expense of societal changes needed

Scientists who believe technology will largely solve the problems caused by the climate crisis are less likely to engage in civic action on the issue, according to a study.

The report from the London School of Economics found they are 23 percent less likelyto sign petitions or take part in protests than peers who doubt that technology is the answer. They are also 18 percent less likely to make high-impact lifestyle changes, from reducing flights to changing to a vegan or vegetarian diet.

Fabian Dablander, the lead author, said the belief that technology will largely solve climate change and its consequences, labelled techno-optimism, can lead to an over reliance on unproven solutions at the expense of the far-reaching socioeconomic transformations needed to address the climate and nature crisis.

but it appears to be the policy makers fault. Nothing to do with lying campaigns, vilification of climate scientists and science, donations to politicians, media campaigns and unholy profits. Nothing to see here folks.
