Hunting for a new fridge freezer as mine is on its last legs. Thinking at least a new one will be more energy efficient than the elderly one I have

Looking at the product descriptions, yes I'd save a whack on energy bills with a new appliance, except that I haven't found a single one that says it's suitable to operate at below 10C, and many that are unsuitable for under 16C!

BP to slash green investment and ramp up gas and oil

My main takeaway is that oil companies make obscene returns from extracting a natural resource no-one can truly own (160% profit WTAF!) and they and their shareholders place greed above the whole of humanity. I realise this is not news. So, roll on the apocalypse because yay money!

Climate Change

Fingers on the Pulses

The UK Climate Change Committee recommended that we should be eating more plant-based foods in order to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions to Net Zero.

One of the easiest ways to do this can be to add more pulses in to our diets.

Pulses, which include various beans, peas, lentils and chickpeas, have multi-faceted benefits. They are not only more sustainable but are also healthier more affordable than meat.

Sustainability

Each kilogram of beef produces 39kg of greenhouse gas emissions. A kilo of dairy cheese produces 15kg. One kilo of beans, pulses and peas produce just 1.1kg.

Health

Pulses perform strongly on many nutrition indicators. They contain lower amounts of saturated fat, calories and salt as well as the highest amount of fibre.

Affordability

You can buy 500 grams of red kidney beans for as little as 10p. Compare that to 500g of chicken breast from a supermarket: Even when on member price offer its hard to find for less than 3.

The Flexitarian website has a section dedicated to recipes using pulses.

BP to slash green investment and ramp up gas and oil

This paper puzzles me. The authors suggest that over the last decade, evaporation has been going down, mostly because of near-surface speeds lower, but at the same time, we observed stronger events. interactions are weird sometimes.

There are some things in the data treatment that look a bit odd, but I don't feel like I know enough to make a call (but if you are, have a look at Figs S3 and S6 and tell me what you think)

We need to throw everything at it, what we have. Take action!
