I got another world:
At the risk of stating the obvious, is necessary for human

How can the poor afford solar Its true its made, seriously as I know how to say it, almost impossible in the US. At the same time its more in reach than ever before. Look up 'balcony solar.' My six figure relatives can't see affording it. But with almost five years of saving and buying year by year on under $25k gross income I largely installed my solar system and am writing this on stored electric power at night after cooking dinner on an induction cooktop. I feel like there are ten billion things I could say, but instead I'll say this: There are definitely issues with this, but the potential for slowing down the increase in destroying the planet's ability to sustain any life we might recognize in the near future, is like a weight has been lifted off my soul and scales have fallen from my eyes. I'm definitely knocking down my winter energy costs and will cover all of my energy costs with solar and battery storage. Simple consumption means easy solution. There's more to it, but for now, this is what I will share.

Might be kind of cool to live in a sort of The Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker world

But seriously, I think it could be done. Maybe something like this structure could be mounted on top of the floating platforms to make something more like land And you could basically make little archipelagos that are loosely bound together somehow, maybe by cable

This looks pretty amazing. Idk how feasible it actually is, but after visiting Little Island in New York City last month, Ive been thinking a lot about floating cities as a potential climate change adaptation strategy. This seems to me like a good example of what Elizabeth Sawin would call .

as the path to and just food systems

By Dr Susan Chomba, Director Food, Land and Water at World Resources Institute Africa

"The 2nd National Agroecology Symposium, held in Nairobi from July 1011, 2025, marked a pivotal moment in s food systems transformation.

"The event brought together farmers, researchers, civil society, private sector actors, media, and policymakers with one clear message: Agroecology must move from the margins to the centre of national agricultural strategy. It is not just an alternative it is the most viable path forward to achieve our intertwined goals for , , and without compromising one for the other.
Agroecology offers a coherent framework for , producing safe and nutritious food, and building and .

"As intensifies, this approach provides Kenya and other a powerful opportunity to lead a just transitionrooted in , backed by , and responsive to the realities of .

A crossroads for Kenyas food systems

"Kenyas food systems are at a crossroads. The dominant modelbased on chemical-intensive agriculture and ultra-processed foodsis driving soil degradation, poor nutrition, increased prevalence of non-communicable diseases, and the pollution of our rivers and lakes. This model also contributes significantly to loss and .

"Alternatively, a more resilient and path is within reachone that aligns human health with ecological integrity. But this transition cannot be left to smallholder farmers alone. It requires coordinated leadership from governmentsparticularly ministries of agriculture, health, environment, and financeas well as development partners, scientists, and the private sector.

"Farmers should not be expected to feed a growing population and withstand escalating while being under-supported or misdirected by ineffective policies and subsidies. Without the right investments and incentives, we risk deepening the crisis.

What agroecology isand isnt

"Agroecology is too often misunderstood as a nostalgic return to low-productivity farming. In reality, it is a sophisticated, evidence-informed, and farmer-driven approach to transforming food systems in ways that are locally appropriate and ecologically sound. It is not a one-size-fits-all solution, but a dynamic practice that integrates scientific research with .

"The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) outlines 10 elements of agroecology, while the High-Level Panel of Experts (HLPE) has identified 13 principles. These include , enhancing biodiversity, strengthening synergies, and co-creating knowledge."

The discovery of season asynchrony opens new avenues of research for biologists, ecologists, and agronomists. Scientists now have to determine how these differences influence the spread of diseases, yields, and the ability of natural communities to withstand extreme weather events. In the future, such knowledge will help more accurately predict the effects of global warming and develop effective measures to preserve biodiversity

What does a sustainable civilisation look like and how do we get there A burgeoning movement of and is seeking answers.

by Joe Coroneo-Seaman, January 21, 2022

Excerpt: "The concept of solarpunk originally emerged in the late 2000s, when a handful of artists on the social media platform Tumblr began sharing drawings of futuristic green cities. Over time, the aesthetic and ethos evolved into a more robust vision for the world, and in the process has been embraced by other art forms. There are now published collections of solarpunk literature, subgenres of music, movements within architecture and even tabletop role-playing games .

"At the core of this vision is the idea that humans can coexist in harmony with the rest of nature. A solarpunk world is one where vast swathes of land have been returned to , rooftop gardens dot the skylines of high-tech cities and vertical farms provide food to their residents.

"Responsible use of is also a prominent theme. , and power have entirely replaced as sources of energy, while widespread has made it much easier to produce things , creating , .

"Increasingly, artists and writers in the solarpunk movement also describe a world that is just and safe for especially those facing the brunt of the and crisis today. ' , and and are safe in solarpunk futures,' says Brianna Castagnozzi, co-editor-in-chief of Solarpunk Magazine.

"Although it may seem utopian and idealistic, solarpunk attempts to answer real questions being asked more and more often in light of the unfolding climate and ecological crisis. What can be saved What does a truly civilisation look like How do we get there

"It may be a big ask, but its now clear that the scale of the environmental crises facing humanity demands to the way we live, as well as the way we think. Art has the power to shape our attitudes, so perhaps its time as Nigerian poet said recently for artists of all kinds to 'dedicate our lives to nothing short of re-dreaming society'."

Borrowed time: crop pests and food losses supercharged by climate crisis.

Heating means pests breeding and spreading faster, warn scientists, with simplified current food system already vulnerable.

Sometimes I wonder if my feeding the honeybees is disruptive and counter to the solitary pollinators. But I do remember raising three beehives growing up and everything around our house thrived. If I planted seeds, they would thrive like crazy. Grapes took over the back yard into the woods. Fruits and vegetables were rich, healthy, and plentiful. It's like the honeybees engineered what grew into a garden that fed a family of four, with enough to share with neighbors and friends. Freshly ground whole wheat bread baked with honey was quite a treat too. We shared with a neighbor that gave us fresh whole milk from their cows.

When spring arrives, I plan on rearranging the solar panels and making a proper solar garden. I'm fully and hope to efficiently distribute the water that the sky brings. Even though I live at the top of a mountain next to wetlands, water has historically been vulnerable to destructive colonization. I hope I make wise choices that follow native traditions. In these uncertain times with ruthless I must be careful as this land may be where I live and finally rest.
