From the Ground Up: Transparent Pathways to Regenerative Food Systems

A new report shows that since 1990, the EU-27 has slashed sulphur dioxide by 95%, nitrogen oxides by 66%, ammonia by 36%, and fine-particle pollution by 41%, overshooting all targets agreed in 2016, and already 16% ahead on the tougher 2030 SO target. The remaining frontier: cutting farm ammonia and smoke from wood-burning heaters.

"Because of all the hills, you have a steep ground surface. So when you get intense rainfall, the rain falls on the ground and it runs off quickly because of those steep slopes and it really just accumulates in rivers and becomes this deadly wave of water that travels downstream very fast."

The number of people without access to electricity has been cut by 292 million in the last decade - despite the global population increasing by around 760 million during the same period. That means 92% of humanity now has electricity, up from 87% in 2010. Increasingly, that electrification is being driven by renewables, and hundreds of millions more people are no longer cooking over open stoves.

This is the highest temperature I ever experienced in Norway. Although the forecast suggests it will only last for an hour or so, the past week has been in similar conditions and it will continue for a few more days. This is certainly the hottest summer in the last five years.

: With increases in sea surface temperatures, the risk posed by Vibrio bacteria increases. These live naturally in brackish coastal waters, esp. when are high, which is increasingly common due to climate change:

Excerpt: "President Lyndon B. Johnson was briefed in 1965 that a climate crisis was being caused by burning fossil fuels and was warned that it would create the conditions for intensifying storms and extreme events, and this country including 10 more presidents has debated how to respond to that warning ever since. Still, it took decades for the slow-motion change to grow large enough to affect peoples everyday lives and safety and for the world to reach the stage it is in now: an age of climate-driven chaos, where the past is no longer prologue and the specific challenges of the future might be foreseeable but are less predictable."

Heatwaves, floods and sea level rise: UK weather extremes are increasing.

Published this morning, the UK's Met Offices annual climate stocktake report confirms it: baselines are shifting, records are broken more frequently, and extreme heat and rainfall are becoming the norm.

Observations show that our climate in the UK is now notably different to what it was just a few decades ago.

I wake with the alarm and climb out of bed feeling rather bleary and tired. Pre-vigil coffee and toast gets me started, and I head out to Roosevelt Circle, arriving at 7:29 to greet Craige, who's already holding up a sign that says "We're not going back." I set up my ALL-BLACK signage and settle in for vigil the skies are clear and the sun shines.

it is, as usual, about that time of the month again, unfortunately. I am almost out of food, and Oregon is experiencing a heat wave with 90+F/30+C highs this week (the only A/C I have is in my room), so I'd like to go for low-effort meals.
