Charting the Course: A Zero Waste  Framework for Islands

Our new open-access paper is out in Urban Climate on using three plan evaluation approaches to better understand how Arizona cities are advancing heat resilience. We find that the plans have high-quality participation and coordination but lack detail on vulnerability and climate change uncertainty. We also found opportunities to better target heat mitigation policies to the highest heat risk areas, diversify heat-related policies, and improve plan integration efforts.

This study is the culmination of several years of plan evaluation work through the SW-IFL with , Malini Roy, Shaylynn Trego, Saeideh Sobhaninia, and many University of Arizona and Arizona State University students.

If you're saying Canada couldn't make an EV for under 10K if we put our minds to it I can tell you I think higher of our country & what it's capable of than you do.But you know, keep making excuses.

I like how politicians say ignoring One Nation is ignoring the will of the people. The will of the people wanted taken seriously they chose not to. The will of the people wanted to be stopped but they chose not to. The will of the people wanted a to stop political corruption and they decided to provide a joke. The will of the people wanted tax reform so the rich didnt get richer on the backs of others but only now do they think they should take it seriously.

I dont think these guys care about the will of the people unless it feeds into their racist fear mongering agenda.

What happens when the worlds breadbaskets start failing simultaneously - Multiple breadbasket failures are becoming more likely as climate change increases the chance of simultaneous stress across major producing regions. The danger is no longer only a bad harvest in one place. It is the possibility that several of the regions the world depends on for staple crops could come under pressure at once.

: Why Vegetable Plants Bolt & How to Deal With It

Published on March 17, 2024
By Melissa J. Will

"What is bolting

We use the term bolting when a vegetable produces flowering stems before weve had a chance to harvest the crop. We say 'my lettuce has bolted' to mean it has shifted from vegetative growth to its reproductive stage and is no longer savory as a food crop. It will likely taste bitter and unpleasant.

"Along with lettuces, other vegetables and herbs that can bolt are non-fruiting food crops we grow for their edible roots, stems, or leaves. This includes basil, broccoli, radish, and more. There is a list here.

"There is nothing abnormal about flowering and producing seedthats basic survival through reproduction for plants. Its the timing thats the problem for the gardener when the end goal is food growing."

How waves, ponds and green algae are accelerating sea ice melt in Antarctica

Well boo. My *might* be bolting. I'm sure all the weather changes contributed to the process. Once starts, it cannot be stopped. So, I'll collect the seed and start a new batch (these were obtained from a local farmstand as seedlings, not started from my seed).

Heat is not experienced equally. Some children can retreat into cooler homes, private gardens, cars, holidays, leisure centers or supervised swimming pools. Others live in hotter homes, more crowded neighborhoods, or places with fewer trees, parks, shaded spaces & safe blue spaces. Some families can pay for swimming sessions or travel to safer places. Others cannot

Moreover the claim that it will stabilise supply is debatable given the situation in the Middle East. Don't get me started on the implications.
