I just released the second album of my remastered, remixed, re-recorded archive of songs and music I have written over the last 40+ years just in time for which begins at 9:00pm tonight and runs until 9:00pm Saturday night NZ time.

This album - The Party Police includes some original recordings of band Bumpn Ugly from 1989 and 1990, some original 4 track recordings and some new recordings of the songs I wrote during this period.

All the music is previously unreleased and has been either restored from audio cassette, remastered from original 4 track recordings or new versions of the original songs.

I have included an update to the original song The Greenhouse which I wrote in 1989 about the threat of 37 years ago and updated a few of the lyrics as we are no longer threatened by the use of chlorofluorocarbon CFCs) in refrigeration which was causing a giant hole in the ozone layer above at the time, I also dropped the third verse as the French are no longer testing nuclear weapons in the South Pacific. Both the original and new versions of the song are included on this album.

I feel the last song Jigaboo Music probably needs some context to make sense. It was a song I wrote after I and the late Gerrard Tahupare had a meeting with an A&R dude at a record company in Tamaki Makaurau which reflects the inherent racism in the industry at the time. The story behind the song is included in the about this track text on .

Anyhow enough of the sales pitch- if you enjoy the music I would really appreciate any $ I can generate to continue with my archival project.

So it was true when they said "The Future Is Female"

A climate crisis that threatens the planets capacity to sustain life is helping to stoke conflicts from drought-stricken Africa to a defrosting Arctic, as well as the rise of far-right populism in Europe and the US.

In many cities, it means paying more to drive, to heat your home, or to fly even when theres no real alternative. Meanwhile, the people and systems with the biggest emissions often face the softest pressure.

And thats the part that makes climate guilt feel so unfair. Its not that people refuse to help: Its that the burden is falling in the wrong place

Species Slowdown: Is Natures Ability to Self-Repair Stalling

When scientists recently analyzed hundreds of studies of ecosystems, they were surprised to see a marked slowing in the rate of species turnover. If new species dont replace old ones, they say, ecosystems may have less flexibility to respond to habitat loss and climate change.

RE:

Unmanaged rewilding >of a previously human-controlled environment< indeed decreases biodiversity even further.
The animals required for ensuring a good mix of open woodland, meadows, and forest don't exist anymore. And so, a natural rewilding of such post-human land leads to shrub-dominated flora.
It takes quite a while for this to change into a balanced and diverse flora and fauna.
Longer still for rewilding of a post-civilisation, climate-changeimpacted region.

Good writeup of a paywalled paper:

I asked an author for an uploaded PDF so might post a link to that later.

The Black Death pandemic from 1347ff is not a blueprint however for what's in store for European post-civilisation landscapes.
The pre-pandemic population of the whole continent was only 60 mio people, that is today's UK population.
So their was much, much smaller. Forests still were home to wolf packs and bears, one of the prerequisites for a healthy .

Another thing I'd like to get an answer for: how much does the water cycle change with rewilding, ie with shrub-ification
Will a post-civilisation East-Germany and Poland still turn into dry steppe as projected for >1.5C
Or will the shrub-ification counter this climate change impact by increasing cloud-nuclei and rain amounts

At least we in the UK have an alternative to that now.
