Australia has a carbon 'budget'. It's due to be spent by 2036 By Jake Evans Unless Australia lifts its ambitions, its "fair share" of carbon emissions will be spent 14 years early. With the government announcing a 2035 climate target this week, there is intense debate on how high the government should aim and whether it will be enough to help limit global warming. The higher our 2035 emissions target, the more necessary a carbon tax By Alan Kohler Australia's emissions reduction number is, in short, a laugh-or-cry-o-metre, or perhaps more accurately, a tax-o-metre. "Progress" has stopped being a technological problem that requires new inventions and engineering to solve decades ago. We now have all the advanced technology that were said we would need. But the technology is useless if governments refuse permission to apply it and actively keep blocking it for personal financial gain. Progress in the 21st century will have to take the form of political revolution, not technological revolution. 14.09.2025 - 20:00 Uhr Chart des deutschen Strommix ber die letzten 6 Stunden. I read the paper because I rather expected what they found: normal people weren't affected by the collapse of the Roman Empire. They continued their lives in village and apparently also in city. They knew everything they had to know to survive and thrive. They had the local resources and trade routes  no reason for big stress when such a culture collapsed. What we're facing is totally different. a) changing climate. b) no access to resources because our ancestors depleted the easily accessible stuff, and to drill down deeper/maintain today's mines, we'd need loads of energy  for which we won't have fuel because we can't get to fuels without loads of energy c) same goes for water access for drinking or manufacturing purposes . Eg, in some regions in Germany, replenishing the ground water table to pre-industrial levels would take 200 years. That means, for 200 years after the collapse, people in those regions won't have as easy access to drinking water as their ancestors had. But after the collapse, people there will only have the means to get to the water as their ancestors had. d) no communication network anymore e) our traditional trade routes are broken because transport means vanish, see fuels and also vehicle repair parts f) we lost medicinal and agricultural knowledge, skills and tools. Things our ancestors knew like they knew the back of their hands  we lost that 3-4 generations ago.
