As an environmentalist & scientist (e.g., someone that speaks out & advises people to accommodate the evidence backed solutions to mitigate air pollution, therefore ), & a fifty something years of age male, a reoccurring social theme in my life has been people ignoring my science backed advise.

The people that don't accommodate & advocate, but act against, 'the science' have their own personal agenda.

For example, why has acted against the advice of

The COP climate conferences are no longer fit for purpose.

They are like Facebook groups whose admin positions have been captured by scammers.

At this point, all global media needs to do more to report on them as as expos, not face-value climate conferences.

Notably, the initiatives aimed at reducing emissions from oil and gas sectors and transitioning Indigenous communities away from reliance on diesel fuel have seen substantial delay

This was in the news yesterday.

Meanwhile, the COP29 gabfest will start in a few days in Azerbaijan. Nothing will be decided, nothing will be done, but lots of glossy papers will be produced, and lots of jetfuel will be squandered getting delegates there.

India amplifies solar push amid climate urgency

As the urgency of climate change grows, solar energy is emerging as a central pillar in the global transition toward cleaner energy sources. The rapid expansion of solar capacity & technological advancements underscore the industrys evolution from a niche segment to a primary contributor to renewable energy targets

Experts say it is now more likely , which was due to unveil its 2035 target by February, will hold off on making that commitment amid concerns that a delayed energy transition in the US will influence the timing of other countries 2035 promises, a prospect that has not been ruled out by & Energy Minister

I have questions.

I was browsing the HDX data on and found this wind speed hazard data from Weather and Climate Risks group generated using their Climada tool. Whats interesting was they provided wind speeds in a 44km grid but as a CSV file! I had no idea what the data looked like and so I rendered it as a map with the speed colored using the Mako palette (originally from seaborne).

Ongoing conditions raise concerns

Story by Kelly O'Brien

"With southern now in moderate to conditions, officials are growing concerned about groundwater levels in some areas.

"The latest report from the U.S. Drought Monitor shows that southern New Hampshire is in the midst of a moderate drought, while severe drought conditions are being experienced at the coast.

"The state Department of Environmental Services said New Hampshire has been in an extreme precipitation deficit over the past 90 days. Precipitation is down 4 to 6 inches, which is between 30% to 50% of what's expected for this time of year.

"The soil is dry, as are rivers, which has led to a severe drought classification in a small part of the state. There are concerns about groundwater and what going into the spring with a deficit will mean."

MANAUS, "Dark clouds rumble over the tiny community of Nossa Senhora do Livramento.

"After two years of devastating drought, you might think that residents in this parched and isolated town of about 350 families would be elated that it's finally raining. But many just shrug at the brief torrential downpour. Some liken it to that burst of energy a patient can get moments before death.

"Such pessimism is understandable given the devastation this and hundreds of other communities have been experiencing throughout the Amazon. Dependent on its vast riverways for nearly everything, millions of residents have been left high and dry.

"In the more than 100 years since river levels have been monitored, never has the mighty and the major tributaries of the worlds largest river system recorded such little rainfall. In October, the hit the lowest levels since records were first kept in 1902."
