Carney concedes Canada will overshoot emissions forecasts

Carney made clear his government will not curb growth in the oil and gas sector to meet nearer-term emissions targets

A few weeks ago at an Australian conference on democracy, environmentalist Natalie Kyriacou delivered a remarkable speech that is well worth 15 mins of your time.

Natalie reflects on the contradictions of modern society from climate inaction and political disengagement to social media, inequality, corporate power, and environmental collapse.

I had an appointment cancelled today because the other person was dealing with flooding after extreme rainfall.
It's a reminder that climate change will increasingly disrupt our daily routines and our economies if we dont reduce emissions now.
To the people still claiming that we cant afford climate action. Can we afford not to act
No, and this has long been stressed by economic experts!

"Most movable bridges in Amsterdam, the municipal website informs, have about 8 to 10 millimetres of clearance. But during a few days a year with peak temperatures, there is a chance that the older movable bridges expand more than 10, up to 14 millimetres which represents a great danger for their proper functioning.

In particular, above 25 degrees, there is the risk that the bridges expand so much that they can no longer open."

It's a bit windy and very cloudy with no direct sun so my ceiling fans are enough for the moment.
I only turned on the AC for 30mn last night and this morning, mostly to get rid of the humid feeling.

Given the recent attention to the European heatwave, I wanted to reshare our Nature comment (2021), where we defined and called for heat governance to address rapidly rising temperatures. We advocated for six principles that are even more relevant today: 1) advance heat equity, 2) mitigate heat, 3) manage risks, 4) develop metrics, 5) coordinate initiatives, and 6) build heat institutions.
