'We've passed too many boundaries'

"I look at what the straight science says and that is that we've passed too many boundaries," said Suzuki in an interview with CBC News on Monday.

"It's going to get hotter, there's going to be floods, and all kinds of other things that we can't predict at this point," he said. "As the temperature rises, even half a degree to a degree warmer, the repercussions ecologically are going to be immense."

Scientists have long warned that Central Texas, often referred to as Flash Flood Alley, is uniquely vulnerable to such flooding due to its steep terrain, thin soils, and rapid urban development, which increases runoff and reduces absorption. Climate change is also altering storm behavior, increasing the likelihood that systems stall over a single area, as happened in the Hill Country during this event

The UN's climate budget will climb by 10% next year, a hike agreed to by nearly 200 states: Bloomberg Philanthropies will cover the absent U.S. share (22%), while China will pay 20%, up from 15%.

"Climate change doesn't just mean warming everywhere all the time. It also means more complex and sometimes counterintuitive shifts in where extreme weather shows up," explain the researchers

From 2017: As Catastrophic Hits Houston, Fears Grow of from & Sites

, August 28, 2017

"A catastrophic storm has hit Houston, the nations fourth-largest city and home to the largest refining and complex in the United States. The crisis began on Friday when Hurricane Harvey made landfall in Rockport, Texas. It was the most powerful hurricane to strike the state in more than 50 years. Much of the damage has been caused by the massive rainfall, with parts of Texas already receiving 30 inches of rain. That could top 50 inches in the coming days. Entire highways in Houston are now underwater. The storm has caused five reported deaths, but the death toll is expected to rise. Thousands of people are still stranded in their homes, waiting to be rescued. Meanwhile, the city of Dallas prepares to turn its convention center into a mega-shelter to host 5,000 evacuees. The National Weather Service released a statement on Sunday saying, 'This event is unprecedented and all impacts are unknown and beyond anything experienced.' We speak with Bryan Parras, an organizer for the campaign with the in Houston, Texas. He helped found the group t.e.j.a.s."

And yet so many elected officials are pretending otherwise.
