The latest global study warns that heat waves, severe floods, and wildfires amplified by climate change will have a significant financial impact. According to the new study published in Nature, the world economy could suffer a decline in global income of roughly 19% over the next 26 years

Green Our Planet

A Green New Deal for Canada.

Tackling the climate crisis is the most urgent challenge of our time. But doing so is also the best opportunity Canada has ever had to build our next economy, address the affordability crisis, and protect the environment.

This should be the moment we've been waiting and working for to reduce our energy bills, cleanse our air and water, revitalize our towns and cities, honour Indigenous sovereignty, and take back control of our energy systems. But to realize this potential, a new and much more ambitious approach is needed.

Powerlines not Pipelines: a true coast-to-coast-to-coast clean energy grid.

As we seek to delink our economy from the US, we need provinces to be able to share and export clean energy to each other, before servicing customers across the border. Investing in a true East-West-North energy grid using Canadian steel and other raw materials will revitalize Northern economies dependent on diesel, make energy bills more affordable across the country, create tens of thousands of union jobs, and reduce the number of blackouts and brownouts we face when climate impacts hit. Investing in a clean energy grid will pay big dividends for the climate, our economy, and Canadian independence.

Protect and restore our air, land, and water.

Addressing the climate crisis and transitioning our economy away from fossil fuels requires more than just technological innovation and new infrastructure we have a big cleanup job ahead.

The Polluter Pay principle requires Canada's fossil fuel companies to fund the cleanup of their industry's impacts to our land and water. Under an Avi Lewis NDP, they'll pay their bills and put tens of thousands to work the process.

At the same time, we cannot stand by while our communities are under direct threat from the ravages of climate change we need investments in local climate resilience projects to protect us from the climate-fueled storms and fires to come.

A Canadian Green New Deal will protect and restore our air, land and water.

Petroleum engineers should be the first in line, right

at times i think no matter how smart we are, no matter how much we do our theoretical homework or try to come up with a meaningful response to the everything-crisis - we are only just beginning to understand, but never fully will understand on an individual basis, the mess we have gotten ourselves into on so many levels. this stuff requires input from many, many more people (also for reasons grounded in ).

I hope the out there realize they can believe in their gods and still understand the science of climate change.

The Great Simplification is the Mechanism. The Initiation is the Meaning.

We stand at the terminal edge of the Holocene. By now, those of us paying attention to the data know that the era of green growth and technological salvation is a delusion. We are beginning to understand what systems theorist Nate Hagens calls The Great Simplificationthe inevitable thermodynamic correction that occurs as our civilizations energy subsidy, the Carbon Pulse, begins to fade.

Hagens has done the essential work of diagnosing the physics of our predicament. He has shown us the economic machinery of the descent. But as I walked the transects of the Sonoran Desert, watching the Saguaro forests vanish not into nothing, but into weeds, I realized that physics is only half the story.

The Great Simplification explains what is happening to us. It does not explain who we must become to survive it.

From Mechanics to Maturity

I have released a new document, The Manifesto of the Initiation, to bridge this gap. If Hagens provides the anatomy of the collapse, this Manifesto provides the soul of the descent.

The central premise is that the collapse of industrial civilization is not merely a failure to be avoided it is a necessary evolutionary bottleneckan Initiation.

Drawing on fifty years of ecological field data from the Arizona desert, the Manifesto argues that humanity is currently trapped in a state of Industrial Adolescence. We have exhibited all the classic pathologies of youth: omnipotence fantasies, immediate gratification, and a rebellion against limits. We believed we could bargain with biology.

The ecological data I present in the Manifestothe Sonoran Fractalproves that nature does not bargain. Just as the complex Saguaro ecosystem is being replaced by hardy, generalist weeds to survive the new climate, our civilization is being forced to shed its Cathedrals of complexity.

Why You Should Read It

While The Great Simplification asks how we might bend rather than break, The Manifesto of the Initiation asks a different question: How do we die well as a civilization so that we may be reborn as a mature species

It is a guide for moving from:

  • Despair to Resoluteness.
  • Planetary Disruptor to Earth System Steward.
  • Sentience (feeling) to Sapience (wisdom).

We cannot save the world we knew. That world was built on a debt to nature that is now being called in. But we can curate the seeds for the world that is coming. We can stop being the Black Knight of the galaxy, denying our wounds, and finally grow up.

I invite you to read the full text. It is not a comforting document, but I believe it is an honest one.
