Floods and droughts: Hydroclimate whiplash is accelerating

Climate Change

Knock knock. Who is there .

Virgin Islands Daily News: After the Storm collective to share digital archive project. The Gri Gri Project will host After the Storm Collective, as a part of the Creative Conversations Series, starting at 7 p.m. Friday at Bajo El Sol Gallery. After the Storm, a microlab of the Diaspora Solidarities Lab, aims to create digital maps and archives that record the survival of

A prolonged dry spell combined with strong winds has created the "perfect conditions" for Los Angeles wildfires to rage out of control, though experts say it's too soon to say how much climate change contributed.

Only in "libtard" states like California!

Daniel Swain clarified the interesting climate connection:
background to the fires are
*the 2 wettest, preceding years on record, which had plants grow enormously compared to what is normal in Southern
*the hottest summer on record with its also record-high water hungry atmosphere
*a bone-dry autumn and winter with almost no rain since October in the areas now on fire
*unusual warmth these days with increased evaporation.

All of the above amassed bone-dry fuel load in the forest and grassy ecosystems and also of cultivated plants in the suburbs.
Without the extreme weather whiplash of extreme wetness followed by extreme heat=evaporation and extreme dryness,
ie, without climate change,
the fires wouldn't be so severe.

Additionally, a prolonged fire season due to now easier meets with the recurring winter wind pattern.
A fire plus wind = billions of burning ambers are swirling around, entering houses through the tiniest cracks, and thus, burning structures from within. As well as spreading fires   out of any attempt to control them.
Daniel showed these suburban snowstorm of burning ambers in his YT live streams yesterday. I had no idea this was a thing!

The artwork for CO2 is a photograph I took of a fire, the flames licking round a sheaf of papers, heavily processed to give the impression of water flooding a landscape.

Here's what other's have to say:

"I am actually shocked at how good your stuff is, I really like the mix of genuinely great rhythms and strong warping textures And it's also strong because it's not obviously copying any influences, it sounds very much like its own thing."

The Palisades is extremely rich but to see this in Altadena/Pasadena in our neighborhoods this is terrible .

Lost half our farm to a bushfire, dead and injured animals everywhere, and watched embers rain down in Kambah. Was junior CFA as a kid. Hosted a truck on our farm and a pair of us young teens went 'fucked it' one time and put out a paddock blaze on our own - for which we were both (figuratively) scolded and praised. Many Australians have similar tales.

Not fun watching California burn from afar. Less fun knowing their federal leadership, and potentially ours come election day, will dedicate themselves to making it catastrophically worse.

Nature journal reveals alarming extinction rates for freshwater life

Following on from my rant the other day about Antarctic Cruises, here's a story about how smoke particles from the Grampians bushfire were detected in Antarctica.

The article ends by talking about Antarctic tourism and scientists estimate that each visitor is responsible for 83 tonnes of snowmelt. "Last season there were 122,000 tourist visitors to Antarctica, a figure that has tripled in the last decade".

LA fires: James Woods, Ricki Lake among Hollywood celebrities with homes destroyed

Will they start to take seriously now

We have to stop all extraction of fossil carbon NOW! How many more warnings do you need

When governments subsidise fossil fuelscoal, gas, diesel, petrolthey not only waste public money, they also make climate change worse. Subsidies and tax breaks make fossil fuels cheaper, making it harder to switch to renewable energy and cleaner technologies. Ending fossil fuel subsidies is common sense and good policy.

Huge fires in January are out of the ordinary in California. But conditions are changing.

Cal Fire battalion chief David Acua says officials used to talk about fire seasons.

Now we talk about fire years.

Climate change is making California's fires larger and more severe, experts say.

Maybe the fact that so many famous people are now affected may raise awareness of this.

Billy Crystal and Paris Hilton among celebrities to lose homes in wildfires

Actor James Woods breaks down in tears on live TV as he describes how his Pacific Palisades property was razed.

What we see is a disaster for people. What billionaires see is a plan coming together. They are the only survivors in their dystopian dreams of AI slaves piloting silent space ships. They just don't give a damn about what happens to us. We're expendable. They have the money to protect themselves.

They won't lift a finger to help fight a menacing climate they'll do everything in their power to make it worse. They won't extend a hand to the poor they'll do everything in their power to cut them. They won't stop fighting wars purely for profit they'll start more of them to burn every last drop of petroleum in narcissistic glory. They won't treat immigrants kindly, unless, of course, those particular immigrants make them money, will sleep with them. They can't wait to separate children from parents through their proxies. Children to exploit. They are the money behind child sex rings. They are sociopaths, and they are monsters.

Every one of them is a fascist.

Our politicians, the ones on bended knee to them, are infinitely worse, for they pretend to care. They don't care.

Trump, the billionaire politician, is filth.

The disaster in Southern California is nothing compared to the multiple-disasters-at-once we're going to suffer, over and over and over and over again. All because a couple of hundred spoiled and selfish brats with more money than governments want to taste the wine of absolute power.

Billionaires don't give a damn about what happens to us, and they never will. They wouldn't be billionaires if they did.

I feel terrible for everyone in Southern California and everywhere else on this abused planet. I feel nothing for billionaires but contempt. You did this to us. Fuck your wealth. It's all that really loves you anyway.

Los Angeles FiresLos Angeles Times

When people talk online about , what do they talk about On , it to have been mainly a mix of climate change denial, concern about climate change denial, The effects and consequences of climate change, and individual action.

Not only is still giving top billing to the fires in America (see previous post for why I find this odd), it also has managed to do so without (since I switched on at 7am) any serious discussion of .

do not forget: you all are living through the most extraordinary of times.

the discovery of fossil fuels was & always will be the most traumatizing event ever happening to humanity. once it is gone there's not gonna be a second time when we are given the energy to light up the night sky and set the planet on fire.

and you are still here, fighting every day. processing the insane complexity. navigating it in the fog with no clear route ahead.

so be kind to yourself. ijs.

Hottest year on record, again.

So Gina Rinehart and a handful of oligarchs can hoard the wealth of small nations, buy up political parties and destroy democracy along with the climate.

And in the face of the obvious - and with their own mortality closing in - they do not relent but double down as if to drag the rest of the world with them.

Horrid, truly horrid people.

Welcome to This is *not* the new normal. It will get worse. means more & Stop subsidising & burning fossil fuels ASAP. You too, AUS.
RE:

It's really weird to see winter temperatures that were once 'normal' for South Korea now being called "extreme" by the media.
